How many microneedling sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on your skin and the concern being treated. While one treatment can refresh the skin, a course of three is commonly recommended for established concerns such as acne scarring and uneven texture.
Does SkinPen microneedling hurt?
A topical numbing product may be used before treatment to improve comfort. Most patients describe the sensation as mild scratching, vibration or pressure. Sensitivity varies between treatment areas and individuals.
Is there any downtime?
Redness similar to mild or moderate sunburn is common immediately after treatment. The skin may also feel warm, tight, dry or sensitive, with mild swelling possible. These effects usually settle progressively, although recovery varies.
When will I see results?
The skin may appear fresher once the initial redness settles, but collagen remodelling takes time. Improvements in texture and scarring develop gradually over the following weeks and may become more noticeable after a course of treatment.
Can active acne be treated?
Microneedling is generally not performed directly over active, inflamed or infected acne. Holly will assess your skin and may recommend managing active breakouts before beginning treatment for residual acne scarring.
Is SkinPen suitable for darker skin tones?
Because SkinPen does not use heat, it can be considered for a broad range of skin tones. Every patient still requires an individual assessment, particularly where pigmentation concerns or a history of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation are present.
Can I wear makeup after microneedling?
You will be advised to avoid makeup and non-approved skincare immediately after treatment while the skin barrier begins to recover. Holly will provide specific aftercare instructions, including when you can restart makeup and active skincare ingredients.
